Day 2: Bangalore Running and Walking Tour

On my second day in Bangalore, we went on a Walking Tour of Bangalore and learned about the history surrounding Bangalore, including times when India was under British control. It was such a great experience to walk around Cubbon Park, which is a beautiful space with green trees and lots of people. I even got to travel the newish Metro System in Bangalore which for a trip cost only 10 rupees or 15 cents.

Some things I did:

  • Drank coconut water straight from the coconut (it was delicious!)
  • Rode in an auto rickshaw twice (stay tuned for transportation experiences)
  • Ate at an Indian fast food joint and learned that I love Puri (deep fried bread) and a potato based dipping sauce.
  • Drank Mango Lassi in India, and didn't get sick from the ice (it was a risk that I happily took)
  • Bought fruits from a market (limes are the size of golf balls and taste soooo amazing)
  • Experienced shopping for a dress in an Indian market, you remove your shoes at the store front and sit on the floor while the store "clerk" pulls outfits out of bags and displays them for you one after another until you either pick one or leave. It was such an interesting experience.
  • Oh! And I saw monkeys, they love to jump into parked vans apparently.

Here's some pictures from the tour highlights:

Left and Above and Below: Picture of the Public Library in Bangalore ( I wasn't supposed to snap the photo inside, oops). It was beautiful inside and out, and it has around 30,000 books which is large for India.

Above are photos from a wholesale market where everything from pans to flowers to fruits and veggies to spices to anything you could imagine is sold. Many people come here to purchase things to resell in their own towns or on street markets. The top left picture is of the flower section. each circle is handwoven flowers, you can see a closer view in the bottom right photo. The bottom left photo is all the spices used in Indian cooking
